Manny Matsakis has spent his entire life building football — coaching it, publishing it, and now relaunching one of its most storied brands for a new generation.
A native of the Ohio Valley, Manny comes from a true football family. As a player, he was a three-time First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection at Capital University, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1984 NFL Draft, and played for the Indianapolis Colts during the 1987 season.
His coaching career spans three decades and five head coaching stops — Emporia State, Texas State, Bethany College, Enka High School, and Defiance College — with assistant roles alongside Bill Snyder at Kansas State, Mike Leach at Texas Tech where he helped develop Wes Welker into a national record-holder, and Mike Kelly with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL as Offensive Coordinator.
In 1994, Manny founded American Football Quarterly — which grew into American Football Monthly, the international trade journal of the football coaching profession and the worldwide leader in football coaching information.
In 2025, he announced the revival of the Continental Football League, with the Ohio Valley Ironmen as its flagship franchise. As Founder and CEO, Manny leads the league's vision, new team acquisition, and the national expansion of professional summer football.
The CoFL is Manny Matsakis's life's work — and it is just getting started.
