We head into Week 5 with the Southern Division race coming into sharp focus. The San Antonio Toros sit at 4–0 after surrendering the first points of their season — six, to the Texas Syndicate last Saturday — and have announced that their Sunday matchup at Tall City Black Gold will close their 2026 campaign as the franchise turns its attention to a new training facility and a powerful 2027 season. The Toros' stated commitment to long-term investment in their city, their players, and their community is exactly the kind of franchise-building the CoFL is built to support.

Meanwhile, the Tall City Black Gold have visibly improved week over week and are now hosting what amounts to a revenge game on home turf. The Texas Syndicate return to Pflugerville to host the Texas Herd on Saturday. Two great Southern Division games at 7 PM CST each — Saturday and Sunday — both on the United Football Media YouTube Channel.

Week 6 will be the final week of the 2026 CoFL season, and we expect every remaining game to carry weight. The People's League is closing this season strong — and the road to 2027 is already being paved.

Toros Chase 5–0 in Their 2026 Finale

The undefeated San Antonio Toros travel to Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland for a Sunday night showdown that will both close the Toros' 2026 season and give the surging Tall City Black Gold a chance at the upset of the year. Many around the league believe the Toros — +204 in point differential across four games — are unbeatable. The Black Gold believe otherwise.

The Toros announced this week that the Black Gold matchup will conclude their 2026 schedule as the organization shifts focus toward 2027.

"After productive meetings with ownership and the coaching staff, we have made the strategic decision to forgo the scheduled matchup against the Texas Herd. This allows us to channel all of our energy into launching the new Toros Training Facility and preparing for a powerful 2027 season as the Continental Football League continues its restructuring, as well as upcoming community events."

For the Black Gold, this is the biggest opportunity of the season. After dropping a 44–6 statement win at home over the Texas Herd in Week 4, head coach Rodney Blackshear's club has the form, the venue, and the motivation. Beat the Toros, and the entire Southern Division story changes overnight.

Week 4 Recap · June 20

San Antonio Toros 56, Texas Syndicate 6

At Wheatley Heights Sports Complex, the Toros moved to 4–0 with a 56–6 dismantling of the Texas Syndicate. The Toros' offense continued its assault on the Southern Division — and the defense allowed its first points of the season, but never let the result come into question. The San Antonio Snap Count noted the team has "excelled this season in the Continental Football League" with shutouts, a high-scoring offense, and massive crowds packing the stadium.

Tall City Black Gold 44, Texas Herd 6

The Black Gold turned in their most complete performance of the season at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland, putting up 44 points on the visiting Texas Herd. Coming off a heavy loss the week prior, head coach Rodney Blackshear's club showed exactly the kind of weekly improvement the league hoped to see from a first-year franchise. The win lines them up perfectly for Sunday's rematch with the Toros.

Reminder: The Texas Herd compete as a non-member affiliate. Their three scheduled road games count toward CoFL Southern Division standings for the member opponent, but the Herd are not eligible for the Southern Division title.

The Road to 2027 Starts Now

The Toros' announcement carries a signal that should not be missed: a CoFL franchise is investing in its own purpose-built training facility for next season. That's franchise infrastructure. That's a 10-year mindset. That's what The People's League is supposed to attract.

As Pro Football Newsroom put it this week, "with the mention of a team specific training facility, the feeling of the Toros returning for a 2027 season is almost absolute" (Pro Football Newsroom). The Toros, like the league itself, are pointing every available resource at the next chapter.

The CoFL is continuing its restructuring through the offseason — sharpening its model, supporting member clubs, expanding markets, and giving athletes a real platform on the path to the NFL, CFL, and UFL.
